Green Thumb In the Making!!!

Stock of corn in the early stages.
A stock of corn, further along.
One of our green been plants!

This year I decided to do the garden at my in-laws house. Mike, Shannon, and I worked VERY HARD to prep the soil for gardening. Gosh, it was tiring but, I think it will make the garden so much better for years to come. We had to rip up tarp, weeds and plants that had roots that were extremely deep, thick, and strong. Once that was done my Father-In-Law sprayed Round-Up to kill off any stray weeds, etc. Then we planted corn, beans, peas, melons, zuchini, tomatoes, peppers, and squash. Unfortunately, due to some garden malfunctions, some plants did not survive. However, we did have some survive here and there! I'm excited and proud to say that we will, for sure, be eating some corn, green beans, peppers, tomatoes, and have already begun eating our zuchini! It's quite the feeling seeing things grow from a little seed!

Thank heavens this wasn't the first time I had gardened. Growing up we always had a very large garden. My Dad had us help out a lot so, I knew the general way to do the garden. However, I was lucky to be able to call my Dad for advice and ideas on what to do so, THANKS DAD! I can't wait to plant again next year!

Hey, I have a pretty good recipe for salsa that calls for zuc. Let me know if you have more than you know what to do with.

Hey, Laura: Before you spend lots of time and get lots of blisters digging next year, check out http://www.motherearthnews.com/Organic-Gardening/1999-04-01/Lasagna-Gardening.aspx I've been using a modified version of this system for several years, and it saves a lot of energy. Wish I could show you pix of fine vegetables, but unfortunately, I neglect my garden after I get it going. I'll have tomatoes & squash this year, but the stuff that isn't layered in lasagna is layered in weeds . . .
