HAPPY OPENING DAY OF DEER HUNT!!!!!!!!!!!

Today, October 21, 2006, is the opening day of the rifle, deer hunt in Utah. Unfortunately we're not able to be there this year to join in the kill. At least we can look at pictures, right? The pictures above were taken in October 2001. My family goes hunting on our farm in Dry Lake, which is in Wellsville Canyon. It's quite the experience to go hunting with our family. After going one time with my family Mike has said that we don't give the deer a chance at all. Let me see if I can explain how it works. The hunters carrying rifles will go up quite early, around 4 or 5am while it is still dark. Previous to going up they have already chosen their sitting spots. Then, right before first light the brushers will go up and get in position as well. For those of you not familiar with the term "brushers", I can explain. The brushers walk straight through the trees, in a straight line, making lots of noise, and brush or push all the deer to the hunters. When all the brushers are in position, starting from the bottom of the mountain to the top of the mountain, we then start to walk and make sure we're in a straight line as if we're forming a barrier for the deer not to get out. We do this all morning. At lunch time we all meet at the same spot and have lunch together and of course we talk about our stories of the day. Then, after eating lunch the brushers who want to hunt will switch with the hunters who sat last time. Then we'll do it all over again on a different mountain. We go back and forth all day until it's too dark to do it anymore. I love the deer hunt!!! I love walking around in the moutains all day long with no worries, except that of worrying if I'll get shot or attacked by a deer (ha ha!!!). I also love the thrill of hearing gun shots echo all over the canyon and wonder if someone shot a deer or not. I love walking around and seeing dots of orange all over and wondering who it is hunting. Unfortunate for me, fortunate for everyone else, I don't carry a gun. The reason being is because we have a rule in our family. If you kill the deer you have to clean it and eat it. I can kill the deer and eat it just fine. HOWEVER....I cannot clean the deer. It makes me physically ill!!! Ohhhh, I'm so sad I'm not hunting right now!!!
