HAPPY OPENING DAY OF DEER HUNT!!!!!!!!!!!

Today, October 21, 2006, is the opening day of the rifle, deer hunt in Utah. Unfortunately we're not able to be there this year to join in the kill. At least we can look at pictures, right? The pictures above were taken in October 2001. My family goes hunting on our farm in Dry Lake, which is in Wellsville Canyon. It's quite the experience to go hunting with our family. After going one time with my family Mike has said that we don't give the deer a chance at all. Let me see if I can explain how it works. The hunters carrying rifles will go up quite early, around 4 or 5am while it is still dark. Previous to going up they have already chosen their sitting spots. Then, right before first light the brushers will go up and get in position as well. For those of you not familiar with the term "brushers", I can explain. The brushers walk straight through the trees, in a straight line, making lots of noise, and brush or push all the deer to the hunters. When all the brushers are in position, starting from the bottom of the mountain to the top of the mountain, we then start to walk and make sure we're in a straight line as if we're forming a barrier for the deer not to get out. We do this all morning. At lunch time we all meet at the same spot and have lunch together and of course we talk about our stories of the day. Then, after eating lunch the brushers who want to hunt will switch with the hunters who sat last time. Then we'll do it all over again on a different mountain. We go back and forth all day until it's too dark to do it anymore. I love the deer hunt!!! I love walking around in the moutains all day long with no worries, except that of worrying if I'll get shot or attacked by a deer (ha ha!!!). I also love the thrill of hearing gun shots echo all over the canyon and wonder if someone shot a deer or not. I love walking around and seeing dots of orange all over and wondering who it is hunting. Unfortunate for me, fortunate for everyone else, I don't carry a gun. The reason being is because we have a rule in our family. If you kill the deer you have to clean it and eat it. I can kill the deer and eat it just fine. HOWEVER....I cannot clean the deer. It makes me physically ill!!! Ohhhh, I'm so sad I'm not hunting right now!!!

MMMMMM! Meatloaf!!!!

I can't decide if Connor really enjoyed my meatloaf or it was so nasty that he decided it would be more useful as face paint!!! Whatever the outcome it looks like it was enjoyed one way or another!!! Doesn't that make you want to rush right over and have dinner?!?!?!?

Artists In The Making!!!!

Scream(Mike's pumpkin), Cat (Megan's Pumpkin), One-eyed Jack (Brad's Pumpkin)

For a little pre-Halloween fun we got together with the Call's and the Charles' for some carving fun!!!! Ok, so we used stencils but for those who were carving...man! What a lot of detailing it was!!! I'm glad I was in charge of handling Connor. Although, at the above picture w/ Brad I don't look like the most responsible parent letting him be so close to a knife. When they were cleaning out the pumpkins it reminded me a little of when a deer is gutted. Can you tell deer hunting is in the air?

Connor, Allie, Laura
Megan, Allie, Connor, Laura
Connor has an obsession with babies. He especially loves baby Allie!!! He can't get enough of her and has become very possessive of her! I think it's time for another one. Don't get too excited though! This is not an announcement by any means. Connor is a natural though, don't you think?

You're Never Far Apart When Holding Hands!!!!

So, our blog is a liar! Ha ha!!! For some reason it posted my last blog for October 3rd. Our anniversay is on October 4th (yesterday). We had a great time!!! Our friends, Brad & Diana, willingly came to our apartment and watched Connor for us. Off we went on our own! We haven't been on a date for a very long time!!! I was like a giddy school girl all day. I was so excited!!!! We had reservations at PF Chang's first. Mike had the Orange Peel chicken. It was perfect for him because he loves garlic in his food and this had a lot of garlic in it. I ordered the classis Mongolian Beef. It was yummy, as usual!!!! We got full really fast! After that we went to Sam's Club and wandered around (how romantical). After that we went to the even infamous, delicious Maggie Moo's. I got cheesecake with strawberries mixed in. Mike had cotton candy with gummie bears mixed in. Yummy to our tummies! It was so cold that we ate it in the store. After that we wandered around in The Children's Place, Gap Kids, Yankee Candle (got some more yummy scented tarts), and Williams Sonoma. After that we went and saw the movie "The Guardian" with Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher! It was a really good drama! I enjoyed it a lot!!! We had a great time and had so much fun just being with each other.

HAPPY 5TH ANNIVERSARY!!!!

Engagement Photo Bridal PhotoOur Wedding Day
Today is our 5th Wedding Anniversary!!! Happy Anniversary! It's been a wonderful, crazy, exciting, stressful, fun, everchanging, and beautiful 5 years. Some of the things we've done are moved 8 times, been on vacations to California(Six-Flags & Disneyland), Canada, Jackson Hole, etc. We've been pregnant a few times, Mike graduated from USU and began, left, and began Law School again. There's been surgeries and fun visits back and forth between families. Although life is a bit hectic and crazy right now we love each other more and more all the time! I love you Mike and Happy Anniversary!!!!

So Long, Farewell.....!!!!

On Sunday, October 1st, our Stake announced boundary changes of all the wards and branches. We met at the Stake Center to find out what was happening. It felt like I was on my mission again, awaiting the call to see where I was being transferred to. Sure enough, the hunch I was having was right. They completely dissolved the Capitol Ward. It will be weird not having that ward in our Stake. About 98% of the ward was put into the boundaries of the Lansing Ward. The other 2% (about 5 or 6 families) was put into the Portland Branch. We are one of the families that will now be going to the Portland Branch. Instead of driving 15 minutes to church we'll be driving around 25 minutes to church. The church is a little different looking too. It appears to look like a Baptist church. I'm curious to know the story behind that.
The Branch President is also newly called on Sunday. I've heard great things about him and he and his wife look very, very nice!!!

I am excited for the changes this will bring. However, I have very mixed emotions. I am sad to leave all of my friends that I have made in the Capitol Ward. We all know how it usually goes that when boundaries change then so do the friends. I hope that is not the case this time! I am grateful that some friends are going along with us. I did find out one perk to the ward change! I was to be called as the new YW's President in the Capitol Ward. Looks like I dodged the bullet on that calling, for now anyway.

Liberty Jail

Here is a picture/replica of what it would've looked like while Joseph Smith, etc. were in Liberty Jail. The ceiling was so low and the conditions in which they lived were horrible.

RFLDS Temple

Here is a picture of the RFLDS Temple, located in Independence, Missouri. It's quite the structure! I was impressed! Just to the left of it, about a block, is the piece of ground that Joseph Smith had dedicated to build a temple on but never got to.

Things That Make You Go "Ohhhh!"

Connor was being so cute on this day! For hours he kept dragging around his blow-up sword and the poodle bed that he's laying on. He would put it down in randow spots and just lay there. Ohhhh, how cute!!!

Natural Born Bell Hop!!!!

I think that Connor has found his calling in life. It seems to me that he is a natural born bell hop. I hear that they make great money in Las Vegas!!!! Vegas or bust!!! :)

Such a Big Helper!!!

When the time came to pack up things and begin moving then Connor decided he was going to jump right in and be such a big helper for me! Literally, jump right in!!! I left the room to go get some packing tape and came back to see him in the middle of a toter I was trying to pack up.

After packing for a few more minutes I noticed that Connor was missing in action. That's usually not a good sign. I soon came to find him heading towards the front door with his shoes. Once again, being a big helper!

After putting up with the whole going-back-and-forth action I decided to distract Connor by giving him one of his favorite things, a popsicle!!!! Ahhhh! A much needed break by both of us!!!

Connor's Identity Problem

While living in St. George we not only lived with Mac & Linda but also 4 poodles. Connor and the poodles(Mo, Fi Fi, Tigger, and Peppy) got very used to each other. In fact, maybe too used to each other. Peppy started to take off with Connor's binkies. He would either be caught stashing them somewhere for later or else sucking on them like Connor. On the other hand, Connor would often joing the poodles for dinner time (as seen in these photo's) eating chicken off of Linda's hands. Hey! Whatever got him to eat, right?

The Church History Tour

On August 15-19th we moved from St. George, UT all the way back to Lansing, MI. This time we decided to take some time and have a little family vacation along the way. We have always wanted to see the church sites so we decided to stop along the way to see some of them.

Our first stop was to visit Independence, Missouri. There wasn't a lot to see but it was very interesting to see a few of the sites there. For example: the lot where Joseph Smith dedicated land to build a temple, but was never able to. We were also able to see the temple of the Community of Christ(RFLDS). We also got to see where Governor Boggs house was as well.

Our next stop of Liberty Jail. As soon as you walked into the room where the jail was you could feel the spirit so strong. As the missionaries shared the story of Joseph Smith in Jail it sent chills up our spines. We were in awe, especially to learn a few new things like: they were in that jail for 4 months before being released early & also that previous to being put into Liberty Jail, that Jospeh Smith had always had a spokesman speak for him. After being released from jail he always spoke for himself.

Our 3rd stop on our tour was Carthage Jail. I was anxious to see this site. I had heard and read so much about where Joseph & Hyrum Smith were killed, along with others. To be there was very humbling. As we made our way from room to room I felt myself pondering & trying to imagine myself in their place or even being around during that time. As we sat in the room where the mob came that day I was almost in tears. The spirit, again, was very strong!!!!

Our final stop was to see Nauvoo. Nauvoo is such a cute town, where the church sites are anyway. As for downtown Nauvoo....well, it's pretty old and run down. When we got out of the truck and looked up on the hill we saw the Nauvoo Temple. It was almost as if we were looking at a painting. It was almost like a dream! It's beautiful and reminds me of the movie "Legacy". We are actually going into Nauvoo tomorrow morning to really look at things. We plan to take a carriage ride that gives a tour of Nauvoo, then check out some of the shops around town too.

Although touring has been really hard in a 22 ft. truck + a van being towed behind it...we are so very grateful we took the time out to see these sites. Not many people get or take the chance to exerience these things for themselves. I can't wait to read D&C again and have it come to life as I read it again. I HIGHLY suggest you come see these places if you haven't already.
